William Carroll Episode 60

Have you noticed something missing in your spiritual life? That explosive force Jesus promised His followers seems absent in many churches today. William Carroll tackles this head-on in a candid exploration of the Holy Spirit's role in empowering believers.

Carroll doesn't mince words about denominational divisions, playfully describing himself as a "Baptist metacathecostal" who appreciates traditions from across the Christian spectrum. Drawing from personal experience across multiple denominations, he challenges listeners to look beyond labels to the unifying power of the Spirit. Even John Wesley, he points out, witnessed manifestations in his meetings that modern observers might label "Pentecostal."

The heart of the message revolves around Peter's transformative vision in Acts 10 – a divine object lesson that prepared this Jewish apostle to bring the gospel to Gentiles. When Peter witnessed the Holy Spirit fall on Cornelius's household without human intervention, it forever changed the church's understanding of who could receive God's power. Carroll masterfully connects this ancient story to contemporary ministry challenges, lamenting that many churches today baptize only VBS children rather than reaching their communities with power.

Carroll distinguishes between the regeneration that happens at salvation and the subsequent empowerment believers need for effective witness. "You will be endued with power from on high," Jesus promised – dunamis power from which we get "dynamite." This wasn't just for the original apostles but remains available to all who seek it by faith. Ready to move beyond half-empty spiritual experiences? Listen now and discover how to minister from the overflow of God's Spirit.

Speaker 1:

Well, welcome to Faith Walk. This is William Carroll, your host, and we're going to continue what we were just talking about about the Holy Spirit, and we were talking about the overflow of the Holy Spirit and how your ministry should be out of the overflow of the Holy Spirit, because if you're working on a half-full cup, you're going to be empty If you've only been filled with the Spirit. And we were talking about in Acts how many times throughout Acts it says and they were filled with the Holy Ghost, and Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, stood up and spoke and Paul filled with the Holy Ghost, because you know you want that ministry to be a overflow, a overflow of the Spirit of God in your life, and you know the church needs the Holy Ghost today. I know a lot of people don't like Holy Ghost, holy Spirit. If you say Holy Ghost, they go oh, that's a Pentecostal wacko. You know, I don't care what you call me, because this is what I am. I'm a Baptist, metacathecostal. Yeah, I want to be all things to all men so that I might save some. That's what Paul said too. You know.

Speaker 1:

Just, he used different. He used different nationalities than I do. Instead of nationalities, I used denominations, you know, and I've been a member of every one of them, don't you know? I've studied all of them, I've been a member of all of them. God has used all of them. You know, one of my heroes of the faith is John Wesley man. I mean, just go read some of the things he did and he would preach the word and, you know, demons would scream out in the people and it would throw some people on the ground. Let me tell you he had some pentecostal meetings, you know, but, uh, but I'm, I'm just going to tell you that, uh, you know, god is good and he wants the church to come to one. I love all denominations, I love the baptist, you know, I, I, the baptist, used to.

Speaker 1:

You know, in whatever denomination you was in or wherever you was, people said the baptist can get people saved. You know, but a lot of times now, I don't know, I see, only a lot of times, our churches are only baptizing, you know, the kids after VBS. We're not bringing people in, we're not baptizing people, we're not getting the word out. Is what I'm saying, you know, and I'm not knocking any church and I'm not knocking nobody. I'm saying, you know, and I'm not knocking any church, and I'm not knocking nobody, I'm just saying as a whole, we need the power of the Holy Ghost that we might go out and that we might change the world. We gotta be a world shaker man. He said that you will be endued with power from on high Dunamis, dynamite's, where we get that word endued with power on high. That we'll have the power on high to be witnesses into all the world of the things that Christ did, and that wasn't just to the apostles. I'm going to tell you, that was to the church, to the church. Are you part of the church? Then let's be about God's business. Anyway, I got to get going here In Acts, in Acts chapter I believe I'm in chapter 10. Acts, chapter 10,.

Speaker 1:

Peter was on a little missionary trip, you know, and he was going through and he was going and preaching to the Jews that had accepted Christ. And, you know, Peter was sent to the Jews and he was Jewish right, and so he had stopped in Joppa and he was hungry and he went up on the rooftop to pray and I think it was noon when he went yeah, the sixth hour, which was noon and he saw the heaven open up. He fell into a trance, you know, he had a vision. He had a vision and he saw the heaven open up and a vessel descending upon him and it had been a great sheet in four corners and it was let down to the earth and all men are a four-footed beast of the earth and wild beasts and creeping things and fowls of the air. And there came a voice to him and said Rise, peter, kill and eat. And Peter said Not so, lord, for I have never eaten anything that is common or unclean, because he stuck to the law, the Old Testament law. So there was unclean animals and clean animals. Now listen, he says. And the voice spoke to him again and said what God hath cleansed, that do not call common. And so when Peter doubted in his vision he saw it three times, three times he saw it. Three times, three times he saw it.

Speaker 1:

And then some men, some Gentiles, came and knocked on the door of where he was staying and asked for Peter and said that you know, cornelius, a man with great standing, a man that fear God, a just man, a centurion. See, he was a Roman soldier and he was a Gentile. And he said that was warned to God, that you was here to send for you and you would come. So Peter said, okay, so tomorrow we'll go. So Peter went with them and went to Cornelius' house.

Speaker 1:

Now, they entered Caesarea and Cornelius waited for them and he called together man. He called all of his kinfolks, he called all the people he knew, he called all of his friends and he said there's a man coming that's going to teach us the way of God. And he had man. He had a church meeting, he had a revival meeting set up, okay. So Peter came and he says you know, he came to him and he said he said look, I'm a man and I'm going to talk to you. He says you know. He said you know how it's an unlawful thing for a man that is a Jew to keep company or come into a one of another nation. A Gentile, you know. But God showed me that I should not call any man common or unclean. And listen, I see I'm trying to judge my time.

Speaker 1:

So Peter started preaching Jesus and he started preaching that every nation, anybody in every nation that feared and believed on God and work righteousness, is accepted by God. And as he began to preach the gospel and as he began to tell of the witnesses and then the Holy Spirit, the Holy Ghost. Holy Spirit fell upon them right in the middle of his preaching. Now, they didn't lay hands on nobody.

Speaker 1:

You know, in one point we had a sorcerer that wanted that power to lay hands on people and they'd receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit. What did they receive? Well, he would see them speaking in other tongues when they received the infilling of the Holy Spirit. And he wanted that power. And they said watch out. You know, you seek it for the wrong reason, but yet, while he speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, which heard, and they of the circumcised, which believed, were astonished, and as many as came with Peter, the Jews that came with Peter because of the Gentiles, also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost, for they heard them speak with tongues and magnify God. Then answered Peter Can any man forbid water? That these should not be baptized, which is received? The Holy Ghost as well as we. And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord and prayed over them and and tarried with them. Uh, certain days. Now, listen, the other apostles heard that the gentiles had received the word of god. Well, listen, we are gentiles. Now listen, this was the. This was another time that the Holy Spirit was poured out and it was showed that. He says that they received the gift that we did. He says, and this is chapter 10, acts, verse 45. And they of the circumcised which believed, were astonished and many came with Peter because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. Well, listen, the gift of the Holy Ghost was to our sons and daughters.

Speaker 1:

According to the prophet Joel, the gift of the Holy Spirit wasn't just for the apostles to accomplish what they had to accomplish. The gift of the Holy Ghost, the promise of the Father, was to the church. You see, and we see this, a lot of people will preach on the other, but they leave this out because they say it's a one-time thing and never happened again. No, it happened again and it happened more in the chapter of Acts 2. It just doesn't come. It comes out and it says it a different way.

Speaker 1:

But listen, I want you to man, I tell you what if you're a born again, if you're a born again Christian, you know, and you got Jesus living in your heart. And yes, you got Jesus in your heart. He lives in your heart through the Holy Spirit, that's the regeneration, that's the being born again, regenerated heart. But there is an infilling, a pouring out of the Spirit of God upon you to do the works that God would have us to do, to be a powerful Christ, to be a witness in all the world. And it's a dunamis, a dynamite power. You know, and if you don't have that power, you're lacking that power. Begin to pray, holy Spirit, fill me with his presence. Holy Spirit, show me the scriptures that will teach me, because I haven't learned this and I need to know by faith, because, see, the Holy Spirit is given by faith, even as you have received the new birth. Well, listen, god loves you, accept him as your savior. If you haven't pray that the Holy Ghost would come upon you, that you would have power to be a witness.
